Our unwavering commitment to independence

At Transitional Housing and Resources, we're building more than just homes; we're building pathways to lasting independence. Discover our long-term vision, the core values that guide us, and the transformative journey we offer to those seeking stability and a renewed sense of purpose.

Our long-term vision: Breaking the cycle of crisis

Transitional Housing and Resources (THR) is not just providing a temporary stop; we are building a permanent bridge to independence. In the long run, THR is working to achieve three transformative shifts:

1. A community-owned sanctuary: Our long-term goal is to secure and sustain a permanent, multi-unit facility in Suffolk County. This ensures that no matter how the economy changes, there will always be a "safe harbor" available for Long Island veterans and people in recovery.

2. The "wellness-to-work" standard: We aim for our Social Enterprise (the Apothecary) to become a recognized training ground. We want the world to understand that when a veteran creates something with their hands, they aren't just making a product—they're building a future.

Our core values: Restoration opportunities

At the core of Transitional Housing & Resources (THR), we don't just see a "homelessness problem"—we see a "restoration opportunity." These are the values that act as the internal compass for everything we do.

1. Radical dignity: We believe that every human being is born with inherent worth. Our primary driver is to restore the self-respect of those who have been overlooked by society. We don't just provide a bed; we provide a space that honors the individual's humanity.

2. Holistic stewardship: We believe that healing is a "whole-person" endeavor. Our focus on nature, wellness, and the artisanal apothecary reflects our belief that the mind, body, and spirit must all be nurtured to achieve lasting stability. We aren't just landlords; we are guides on a journey to wellness.

The three pillars of the THR journey

We help individuals move from homelessness to a stable life through our comprehensive three-pillar approach:

1. The safe harbor (immediate stability): We provide a clean, dignified, and supervised residence for 12 months. The result: When a person doesn't have to worry about where they will sleep or if they are safe, their brain can finally stop "surviving" and start "healing."

2. The grounded compass (personalized guidance): We sit down with each resident to navigate the "paperwork of life"—VA benefits, medical appointments, and legal hurdles. We also provide PTSD counseling and recovery groups. The result: We clear the path of obstacles so the resident can focus on their mental and physical health.

3. The path to purpose (vocational growth): We believe that a stable life requires a sense of pride and a steady income. Residents join our social enterprise program (the Apothecary) where they learn valuable skills in crafting wellness products, leading to financial independence.

"THR provided me with more than just a roof over my head; they gave me back my dignity and a path to a future I never thought possible."
